Indoor Plant Design Learning Programs
We built these courses after working with plants in real spaces for years. You'll learn practical techniques for arranging greenery in homes and offices, understanding light requirements, and creating compositions that actually survive. Each session covers specific scenarios we've encountered while designing interiors across different building types and climates.
Foundations Track
Start with plant biology basics that matter for interior design. We cover photosynthesis requirements, watering patterns, and soil composition. You'll understand why certain species fail indoors and how to match plants with specific room conditions. The final project involves creating a maintenance schedule for a small apartment.
Composition Methods
Learn to arrange plants using principles borrowed from landscape architecture. We examine color theory, texture contrast, and spatial balance. Students work through exercises involving different container types and grouping strategies. By the end, you'll design multi-plant displays for various room layouts and purposes.
Professional Practice
This program focuses on working with clients and installation logistics. You'll practice space assessment, budget planning, and seasonal rotation schedules. We review contracts, plant sourcing, and common installation challenges in commercial buildings. Participants complete a full design project from consultation to final placement.
How the Curriculum Works
Each stage builds on techniques from the previous one. The structure reflects how we actually approach projects in our studio, moving from assessment through design to implementation.
Initial Assessment
You start by analyzing interior environments. We teach measurement of light levels using affordable tools, evaluation of humidity patterns, and documentation of existing conditions. Students photograph reference spaces and identify potential challenges before proposing any plants.
Species Selection
Learn to match plants with measured conditions. We review drought-tolerant options for low-maintenance scenarios, humidity-loving species for bathrooms, and low-light performers for offices. The focus is on realistic choices that clients can actually maintain without specialized equipment.
Design Development
Create detailed arrangements using sketches and simple floor plans. Students learn to balance visual weight, plan sightlines, and account for growth patterns. We work through multiple iterations, refining compositions based on spatial constraints and functional requirements.
Installation Planning
The final stage covers procurement, transport, and placement. You'll organize delivery schedules, prepare containers, and establish care protocols. We discuss common installation problems like drainage setup, furniture protection, and client communication during the process.
What You Actually Get
Practical Templates
We provide assessment checklists, maintenance schedules, and client questionnaires we use in our own projects. These documents help you stay organized and avoid overlooking important details during consultations.
Species Database
Access our reference library of indoor plants with care requirements, growth rates, and common issues. The database includes photos of mature specimens and notes on how they respond to different indoor conditions.
Project Feedback
Submit your design work for review by instructors with commercial experience. You'll receive specific suggestions on plant choices, arrangement improvements, and potential maintenance problems to address before installation.
Supplier Contacts
We share connections with nurseries and container manufacturers we've worked with. These contacts often provide better pricing for students and can source unusual species that aren't available at standard garden centers.
Recorded Sessions
All live webinars are recorded and available for review. This helps when you need to reference specific techniques or revisit installations we discussed. The recordings stay accessible for one year after your enrollment period ends.
Ongoing Support
Join discussion groups where students share installation photos and troubleshoot problems. Instructors check these forums regularly and answer questions about unusual situations you encounter with specific plants or client requests.
